“Why the Rate Increase?
The cost of doing business – for things like fuel, transportation, utilities and health care benefits – have continued to increase. Without the increase to keep up with rising cost, The USPS face significant losses. Many people do not know that postal operations are not subsidized by tax dollars. The USPS relies on the sale of postal products and services to cover operating cost.

The USPS just raised prices January 8, why another increase so soon?
The January 8 rate increase — the first since 2002 was needed to fulfill the requirement of a federal law (PL 108-18) passed in 2003. That law requires the Postal Service to establish a $3.1 billion escrow account, with use of the funds to be determined by Congress at a later date. Without this federal mandate, it would not have been necessary to raise rates in 2006.” (May/June2006 issue of Mailers Companion). With the new posal law signed by President Bush last year, the postal service will not have to pay into this fund again

Rates listed above are  final. The information above is taken from the May/June2006 issue of Mailers Companion. For complete information on the proposed rates and fees go to usps.com/ratecase.
